Story - 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writing
Dear Isaac,
In some ways your story is just beginning. Yet, your story, I believe, has been known since the beginning of time. It feels so new right now. All the experiences, places to visit, and foods and tastes. All for the first time.
So much to touch:
The softness of your puppy dog.
The warmth of my clothes when you snuggle on my shoulder.
The cold of ice cream on your tongue.
Fresh berries on your fingers.
Water as you splash in the bath.
Carpet on your feet as you learn to steady yourself and walk.
Wooden blocks you knock down.
So much to taste:
Farmers’ market fresh produce.
Fruits and veggies.
A warm muffin straight from the oven.
Eggs and pancakes for breakfast.
Pasta and spaghetti sauce.
So much to see and do:
Crawling and walking from here to there.
Pushing trains and cars.
Throwing balls.
Following your sister wherever she goes.
Pulling dishes out of the cupboard.
So much to hear:
Stories and songs.
“I love you’s” over and over.
Birds chirping and bees humming.
Children laughing and friends talking.
Cars and trains passing by.
There is so much. It’s all new yet it’s all been a part of you from the beginning. Waiting to be unearthed. Waiting to be discovered.
I see you crawling across the floor. Hiding behind the curtains. You stand up and peer out the back door. The world waiting for you. The world beating inside of you. Our globe, a gift from our wedding, sits on the floor. Who could have imagined you when we received that gift. But you were known and loved. The globe is there to help you pull yourself to standing. I see your small hands turning the world around. Feeling the weight of this world. Seeing the vastness that God created. Each country and continent waiting to be explored. Each new place waiting to teach you. Each person you meet a part of you, too. Each person deserving of respect. Each new place and person ready to welcome you.
This is my hope for you, dear boy, that you keep lifting yourself up and going into the world. That you watch and listen and learn from everyone and everything you meet. I hope you see that your story is a part of everyone's story. That we need each other. Your unique gifts make this world more beautiful, hopeful, and graceful. You have a place in this world that’s meant for you and only you. A place to witness to the good God created. A place to be that good God desires.
The world is waiting for you because it’s known you from the beginning and it’s calling you by name: Isaac Craig, Child of God. This is your story, created in love, go out and change the world.
**All month I'll be participating in 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes. Each day I'll take some time (sometimes 5 minutes and sometimes a little more) to sit down and write. It's about the discipline of writing each day. It's about listening to the words from within. It's about letting creativity work in me. I'll share my writing at some point during the day on my blog. Thanks for reading.
