How - 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes
The sun wouldn’t be up yet. Only the promise that it would rise again. First there’d be the ruffle of sleeping bags, yawns, and the creaking of beds and floors. The first person to wake, as quiet as they tried to be, always woke up the person next to them. Then one by one eyes would open adjusting to the surroundings.
As legs lifted over the side of the bed creaks and pains were felt. Bandages put on again. Creams, lotions, and lots of tape applied to dull any pains. The morning ritual to prepare for the day; caring for the body, especially the feet.
After so many days the morning routine could be done with eyes practically closed. Packing the bag, rolling up the sleeping bag, and trekking to the bathroom. Sometimes a snack would be eaten. Water bottles filled to the brim. Boots laced tightly. Preparing to walk.
Everyday the same thought: “How will I be able to do this?”
Everyday the same task: to walk.
When you intentionally walk every day for 33 days the question remains: How do you do it?
How do you walk 500 miles over one month?
By now the sun is beginning to make it’s presence. It’s warmth beginning to be felt. The light illuminating the way. The pain is still present. The knees stiff. The sore toes with blisters. Every step felt on the way.
“How will I be able to do this?”
Then it’s time to walk. To put one foot in front of the other. To slowly move.
“How will I be able to do this?”
One step at a time.
**All month I'll be participating in 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes. Each day I'll take some time (sometimes 5 minutes and sometimes a little more) to sit down and write. It's about the discipline of writing each day. It's about listening to the words from within. It's about letting creativity work in me. I'll share my writing at some point during the day on my blog. Thanks for reading.
